For your discussion board post, I’d like you to focus on the sections, “Challenging teachers’ deficit notions at the individual level” and “addressing deficit notions at the community level” (pages 143-148) from the Battey & Chan chapter. 

Choose one or two sentences from either one of these sections that struck you as important or valuable, and describe what you thought was important about it, making connections to other parts of the chapter.  I encourage you to apply the ideas to your own context–could you imagine having these conversations in your building?
